Tashan at multiplexes?
Okay guys, I’m not sure. But I’ve just received news that Tashan may not release at multiplexes. YRF and the multiplexes aren’t on the same page vis-a-vis percentage.
Can anyone confirm this?

Abzee: I guess some of the multiplexes are not playing Tashan. My cousin brother who is there in Mumbai said he saw a long Q outside one of the leading multiplexes when advance bookings opened on Monday, don’t exactly know which one was that.

In Pune TOI, Tashan’s listing has all the multiplexes with show timings also, but when I go to the websites of the multiplexes, Tashan is not one of the options. I tried with other locations also but Tashan is not listed. May be YRF and multiplexes are again playing who blinks first.

Yes, this is last minute development. They were good to go with the multiplexes, but as usual YRF are acting smart at the last minute. My source is pretty strong.

That could be the case.I was checking from the respective websites where Tashan is not listed.

In Kolkata, none of the multiplexes are claiming to show Tashan tommorrow. In their TOI advt., there was no metion of Tashan.

Unfortunately if this holds up the chances of the film registering the biggest initial ever are diminished. Of course as we know from the politics of this forum people tend to highlight only certain films that lose money this way! usually Akshay does not get the benefit of the doubt!

My parents confirmed that Tashan has not been released in the multiplexes in Ahmedabad…bummer for them.

I do think that Yashraj have completely lost the script in terms of doing effective ad campaigns for their films. One can do less by design but with Yashraj there is often a sense of chaos in these matters, i.e. over the last year or so. And even when they’ve done things in more organized fashion, as with JBJ, they’ve really followed an older kind of narrative. I think beginning with UTV many other campaigns are more effective these days. With Tashan it would be one thing if they just had the first preview which was very good. But since then they’ve actually had these really lame previews. Luckily for them Akshay Kumar can drag people to the theaters these days even if he promises a film where there will be nothing after the interval! But I also think the music has been a big letdown here. I thought this kind of soundtrack would be right up V-S’s alley and far more than an OSO. Evidently not.
Even leaving aside the question of advertising Aditya Chopra has just revealed a great deal of confusion over the last year or more in most aspects as a producer. Incidentally if I were coming off a terrible ‘06 as he is I wouldn’t be playing hardball with the multiplexes for Tashan or anything else. In fact this is precisely the kind of film where because it’s expected to be a blockbuster he should let the multiplexes increase their profits and restore some confidence in Yashraj films this way. In any case this whole deal with no resolution between multiplexes and producers even at the last minute is getting to be very stale. Things end up being resolved by Sat when both parties know what the initial reaction has been like and therefore the amount of leverage they have. It’s a very unprofessional way of doing things.

For Ahmedabad ILG will have to draw on his older patients and use his sources to get it released! At least the ones who’ve survived!

yeah, I enquired with the exhibitors here in Pune, Tashan is not releasing tomorrow. YRF wanted 55 for week 1, 50 for week 2 and 45 for week 3, which no one was willing to give.
The guy I spoke to (abrar Issak) is an exhibitor for single screens in the city and tells me that advance booking is in the range of 20-25 per cent. This, he tells me, is not a bad start, considering advance bookings only really happen at multiplexes. A hugely anticipated movie gets about 35-40 per advance booking at single screens, not more.
As per him, these are the movies, the trade is looking forward to the most:
Sarkar Raj( “The choice of title is excellent and will appeal to both urban centres and interiors.”), Ghajini (”Should easily be the biggest hit of the year’), Main Yuvraj and Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi.

Abzee I had informed my SB best buddy Hardik about the multiplex problems acouple of days back.
As far as my town is concerned its at the multiplex where I will check it out tomorrow, thanks to the timely advance.

In Pune Tashan is releasing at the local multiplexes (E-Square and Citypride), but not at the bigger ones (Inox and Adlabs). No PVR in Pune.

“Tashan is releasing at the local multiplexes (E-Square and Citypride”
It HAS released and has been so from the first day itself.

E Aquare is owned by the team of Nitin Manmohan, Sanjay Dutt and a couple of businessmen and I believe they never have a problem accepting the distributor terms, because their profits are humungous with youngsters patronising the place!
In fact, every film -without exception releases here -even if there is a multiplex issue everywhere else. City Pride has also been accepting terms of the producer.
Comment by Aarohi on 1 May 2008:
Um, that comment was made one day before Tashan released, i.e., on 24th April.
Comment by sandy on 1 May 2008:
Aarohi: I thought this was a fresh post, hence the mistake. I just checked the date and saw it was April 24, so you’re pretty much bang on target.
