From a bubbly NRI in Namsatey London to a secretary in Race, actor Katrina Kaif is experimenting with different roles. And while she awaits her next two releases, Singh is Kinng opposite Akshay Kumar and Yuvraj with beau Salman Khan, Kaif is busy with brand endorsements. In the city to endorse Slice for which she is the brand ambassador, Kaif chats to PALLAVI JASSI about life in Bollywood.

You have modelled since you were 14, and have now been acting for three years. What career do you prefer?

Endorsements have more to do with your personal identity and what you stand for as an individual. But acting is about living out a different character. So I’d say they are two different things.

Your sister Isabella has been grabbing a lot of media attention of late. Does she plan to enter the industry soon?

No, not at all. She still has two more years of studying and my mother will not let her work in the industry before completing her studies. Post that, it’s her choice and I will support her if she chooses to act.

You’ve done two Telugu and one Malayalam film as well. How difficult was it to deliver dialogues in the regional films?

Telugu was fun and easy but Malayalam I found a bit difficult because it’s very fast. So after rehearsing the dialogue enough number of times and giving a take, the director used to say ‘ok, now say it all 10 times faster’.

Salman Khan is coming out with his own brand of clothes with sister Alvira Khan designing them. Are you associated with it too?

Well, I think it would be best that Salman speaks about this when he launches it.

Are you and Salman planning to get married soon?
Well, I don’t think anyone except Salman and his family knows what they want. So right now I’m concentrating on my work and happy doing that.

It is believed for Namastey London and your forthcoming Singh is Kinng, you have picked outfits for yourself for the film?

Yes, I’m like that by nature. I like to be personally involved in styling and other aspects of a film. I have been into fashion since the age of 14, so it comes naturally to me and I love creating looks for characters that I do.

Having worked with so many different actors who is your favorite? And one actor you haven’t yet worked with but would love to be paired opposite?

Well, all the actors that I have worked with are nice in different ways. But I would love to work with Hrithik (Roshan). I think he is a phenomenal actor.

Is there a clarification that you’d like to make for all the speculation going on about the rivalry between you and Kareena Kapoor and the whole economics of actresses?

The whole comparisons between actorsis quite unwanted. Everyone has a different place in the industry and there is enough work for everyone. And as far as the money bit goes, this industry does not pay a certain amount till the actor is deserving enough of it.
