Race: Its not just about Katrina and her clothing

I hated the idea of even watching Race (forget about liking it) which came across to me as one more flick which will focus more on cleavage of Katrina than her acting, but thanks to Hardik and Bolly in ShoutBox I saw the movie and liked it immensely. It is one of better efforts of Abbas Mastan after Baazigar. Yes there are songs and dressup which is aimed to pump the adrenaline in your blood, but whats even better is that it keeps your mind working throughout the movie and gives you total entertainment. I am not surprised that this movie is so much liked by the people and not so much among critics, which again proves that critics are probably loosing their touch with the taste of people.

First before anything else let me tell you that this movie does not deal with any social issues, hindu-muslim love stories, or political statements, which earn the brownie points from critics. This movie provides entertainment which is the fundamental for any movie and gives you a thrill of watching any decent Hollywood flick.

I won’t go into the story of the movie as the story is the real star of the show. There is nothing, I repeat, nothing which even comes close to the brilliance of the script. The ability of the flick to hit you with one revelation after another actually keep youhooked and then after a few minutes even you start playing the writer and guessing the next hit, but dude you will be wrong. Movie’s genuine power lies in the surprises it throw at you one after another and that my friend is no lesser feat to accomplish.

Performance wise Akshay Khanna, Saif Ali Khan, Anil Kapoor, all impresses you if not floored, and girls… I never expected any of the ladies to have anything to do in the movie, but they have a part to play in the story and comes out pretty alright. Director had been crisp so had been the editor, movie doesn’t leave you with anything but a satisfaction that something different is being tried and that too successfully in Indian Cinema.

Too bad the movie is marketed as the way it is, else if it was marketed as Gupt was, it would have gotten much better response and ratings everywhere.

My rating would be : 3.5/5

Go watch the movie for a story which has enough punch to impress. Definitely year’s most enjoyable movie for me atleast, and going by the response, I am not the only one. Again thanks Boll, Hardik, Flora and whosoever referred Race.

  1. Good Short Review, I liked it as well, It is one of those good Time Pass movie.

  2. For me race is strictly OK movie. Too many twists have spoiled the fun for me.
Akshay has a better role when compared to Saif.
Saif’s is more of extended guest appearence. The gals were there just to increase glam quotient. Anil was funny in his own way but the double meaning jokes should have avoided.

  3. Kunal:Looks like you liked it a lot..

    My Comments

  4. Nice..will check it out!

  5. Do tell me about your comments Akshay, or better still post your own review.

Another thing, don’t dissect the movie, just enjoy the ride, you will have good time.

And Rks yes I liked the movie, may be more so because I had absolutely no expectation from it. I was actually expecting it to be a bad movie. I believe the dialogues should have been better, I couldn’t even see the double meaning of those dialogues, they were falling flat. But I liked the whole thriller.

  6. As you posted this review today, I thought its a April 1st joke…especially after reading this line…”There is nothing, I repeat, nothing which even comes close to the ‘brilliance’ of the script.”……LOL.

Well…if I had to review Race, it will be exactly opposite of yours. :-)

  7. Kunal: I’ll do a review and take it for what it is..I HATED abbas mustaans NAQAAB..but loved something like AJNABEE..so lets see!

  8. I think Kunal is being heavily sarcastic in praising the movie. That has to be the only explanation.
