Hot Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone is expected to play the role of Rani Laxmibai in a period film which could also star Akshay Kumar.
Vinay Shukla has been signed up as the director of film which will be part of a 50th anniversary celebration of the First War of Independence. The film’s backdrop will show the efforts made by leaders such as Tatya Tope, Nansahed Peshwa and Rani Laxmibai. According to a source Deepika Padukone has agreed to sign for the film and is very excited about enacting a historical character. Along with Deepika, Akshay Kumar will become Tatya Tope, but as of yet the actor is unable to provide dates for the project.
Power house film producer Firoz Nadiadwala is expected to provide the money for the movie which could be made with the help of the Information and Broadcast Ministry.

Uhh, “50th anniversary”? Baba, it’s too late even for the 150th anniversary of the outbreak of the revolt (1857) or for most of the major milestones en route to its suppression (mostly done by 1858). Unless the point is they want it to coincide with the 150th anniversary of Tope’s death (1859)…
