Jodha Akbar review
February 15th, 2008

STORY: Boy marries girl, people plot to get at them, boy beats all the villains and all ends well. Typical story except that the boy and girl here are Akbar and Jodhaa, so there’s an excuse to splash a lot of money on sets, elephants and other things.

REVIEW: Great sets, nice costumes, fantastic technical work, big fat elephants, but WHY THE HELL DO YOU NEED 3 AND A HALF HOURS TO TELL ME THAT?!!!

JODHAA AKBAR has its moments, but its wayyy too long. It’s not the 3 and half hour length, it’s just that it is a 3 and half minutes ka plot pulled into 3 and a half hours. A good deal of the film is spent with Akbar and Jodhaa figuring what’s a good time to, umm, ‘do it’. A big, earth-shattering suspense bit is included which I will talk about (but not reveal) at the end of this review. One definite positive is the casting. The big muscular villain with the fantastic physique (BMVFP) is almost completely wasted. Sonu Sood continues getting screwed by one and all, an art he has acquired great expertise in after AASHIQ BANAYA AAPNE, YUVA etc.The action sequences are good. The opening war is as good as most Hollywood war sequences. A fight between Hrithik and BMVFP towards the end is not quite polished and smooth. And before I forget, there is no big suspense in the film, was just trying to make the review interesting, since the film offers very little by way of that. Sorry.

BOTTOMLINE: Take a friend along who has seen the film so he/she can wake you up when the good parts are on.

Rating: 2/5
