Aamir needs time to get back in shape

Author: Upala KBR Date: 02 Feb 2008

With Taare Zameen Par and the yet-untitled Ghajini remake getting delayed the actor has more time to work out his 6-pack abs

Aamir needs time to get back in shape

Aamir Khan has already achieved his six-pack abs and  is now working on a tighter and sharper physique to go with his bald look in the yet-untitled Ghajini remake.

Says a source, “The shooting of the Ghajini remake is on, Aamir’s bald look and bare-bodied shoot has been postponed to March-end because perfectionist that he is, Aamir wants to get into a more defined shape.”

On a break

Aamir’s trainer Satyajit Chourasia says, “Aamir has started working out from January this year after taking rest for 10 days. So he missed out on almost a month of workouts. Now with the shoot getting delayed, he said it would give him time to work out better and get back into shape.”

“During the time Aamir didn’t work out, he didn’t put on weight as he was working very hard day and night. During shooting, Aamir would work out at least five days a week for two and a half hours but now he is working out for four hours every day. He’s very disciplined and has maintained his diet regime,” continues the trainer.

Early to bed

Currently, Aamir is working on muscle maturity for his bare-bodied shoot. Says Satyajit, “Aamir says that he will work on his body so hard that tomorrow will people will buy tickets to see his physique. Aamir has cut down on his carbs to increase the body sharpness, increased the protein intake and is getting more rest. At this level, Aamir needs to get at least nine hours of sleep, so he’s going to sleep early now at night.”

Satya says they are combining professional and conventional training to achieve the next level. “Apart from the sharpness, you will now be able to see the veins as the skin becomes thin. This is known as muscle maturity fibre giving shape to a tighter, sharper body. Apart from his diet, Aamir does cardio, stomach exercises, stretches and weight training.”

WHAT’S IN AAMIR’S GYM?

Aamir’s gym, which is spread over 1000 ft and two garages, is complete. “Today he has all the equipment required for all the body parts. Aamir ne dil khol ke spend kiya and the gym costs over 55 lakh. We have installed imported machinery which includes Tuffstuff’s Powercage, a cable cross-over, a four-liner bench, squat machine, leg extensions and a leg curl machine that has a dual function, apart from the treadmill and lots of weights. We have dumbbells and weights weighing from 0-80 pounds. Currently Aamir is doing heavy weights for his back.”

Have not seen the Tamil film, but this looks like it could be a rocking, all out performance. I don’t even know what kind of a performance was given in the original, what scope is there here in terms of performance? What kind of character is he playing?

Jay: the original is an action potboiler married to the Memento idea, though somewhat more interestingly done here in that the clues are inscribed on the body! It is an intense kind of role, not very new in terms of characterisation for Tamil cinema, but certainly ‘new’ enough for the current Bollywood scene and specially given Aamir is doing it. I don’t much care for the original but I expect a better film than the original here. And of course Rahman’s doing the music unlike the original! The actor in the original was much younger than Aamir though.

I expect the film to be a massive hit. The only caveat here is that if the film retains the level of action that the Tamil film had this would make it a rather violent film. Again Southern audiences are used to this but Hindi family audiences haven’t ‘endorsed’ this sort of action for a long time. It’s not the D2 variety but gritty stuff. Having said that if there’s one actor today who could get over that hump it’s Aamir. And in any case the lost family audiences can easily be made up by mass audiences here. If this film clicks expect a historic hit.

Jay/Sattu:) this is going to be some very very massy stuff for Aamir! I can’t wait to see him in action mode, shaved head n all! GHAJINI was also a fairly violent film, and I hope they retain the violence here..one thing i miss in hindi films…the bare-bone, knuckle crunching, face smashing, blood spurting violence….

I think the violence is just a bit much for the Hindi audience. I might have to be toned down, but I’m guessing the sort of deranged intensity Surya had in the original is what Aamir will have here. Just realized that the film is like Fanaa to an extent in that we will get to see Aamir in two different personas.

“wasn’t Sunny Deol doing just that!”

Yes, except that Sunny wasn’t the slightest bit believable in this sort of thing. I mean if your going to have one of those moments where 6 guys go up against your hero, the audiences first thought shouldn’t be “ya right buddy”. With Surya in Ghajani, the thought of the “reality” of the scenes didn’t strike until after it was over just because of the way it was executed.

I’ve yet to see Gajini in totality but it was unbelievable to me so…it depends. The film that made ‘reality’and sense in it’s action sequences was Gardish with Jakie Shroff….

Classic Muragadoss if you ask me! Gajini is a technically remodelled version of regular masala flick from TN. Its going to a let down for those Aamir fans who’d be expecting another classic …

And I have a feeling that Aamir couldn’t outdo Surya. My respect for Aamir will truly increase if he really excels in this role.

” Its going to a let down for those Aamir fans who’d be expecting another classic ” I think every body know that this movie is not “Clasic” material as such. People and Fans are looking forward to it coz of the masala element – also to see the performance and how raw the action is going to be?

Aamir is smart enough to know that there are going to be comparisons so this should definately be interesting.

I haven’t seen him Pithamagan, but I watched the Ayutha Ezhuthu a little while back. And I thought Surya was excellent in Micheal’s role. Actually found the whole film to be superior than Yuva.

    Sid,

Thats not the case with everybody. I am sure thats not the way unbiased reviewers who can’t tolerate cliches everywhere are going to see this … This is gonna be a Fanna replay, unless the sentimental stuff is removed …

However, I am not doubting the success of the movie. A picture of Aamir with a new get-up is all that is required to get the hype going up like never before. I guess even if Aamir’s performance is less than half of Surya’s performance, regular Hindi film audience are going to accept this as extraordinary one. This is a sure shot blockbuster.
