Last Diwali, two biggies, Don and Jaan-E-Mann hit the theatres. While Don became a super-hit, Jaan-E-Mann failed at the BO. This Diwali, Om Shanti Om and Saawariya will release, and almost all the movie buffs are predicting that history will repeat-i.e., OSO will be a super-hit and Saawariya will lag behind OSO. Even I had the same view that OSO will get a better opening than Saawariya. But when I went to a prominent South Mumbai multiplex yesterday (i.e. Sunday) to book tickets for OSO, what I found was shocking and unexpected. I saw that there was a long queue for the advance booking and 75% of the people standing in the queue had come to book tickets for Saawariya. In fact, when my turn came to book tickets, many shows of Saawariya were full! And not a single show of OSO had achieved the ‘House Full’ status. Back at home, when I checked the ‘Online Booking’ of the websites of many multiplexes, I found the same thing. So is something unexpected going to happen this Friday? Which movie will get a better opening-OSO or Saawariya? This question will answer itself on Friday, Nov 9!

Nitesh- Well, I have no problems if it gives a high to some people that what they have been fascinating for years will finally come true this Friday.
The ecstasy will continue for day 1 and day 2 ( as the battle will seem equal), but the bitter truth will obvious ( as before) from Sunday evening and will become crystal clear from Monday.

Som- As per Film Information, Taran has again given very less centres.
JWM cannot be less than 13 crores ( can be 13.5) and Bhool Bhulaiyaa cannot be less than 6.5 crores ( can be 6.75 cr).

“JWM cannot be less than 13 crores ( can be 13.5) and Bhool Bhulaiyaa cannot be less than 6.5 crores ( can be 6.75 cr).”
yeah could be true for JWM.but BB is definitely gonna fall by 60% which may give roughly around 6 cr or so.even IBOS numbers has fallen more than 60% for BB.

OSO will recover its money one way or the other, but will it be a quality film? That’s the question. Critical acclaim is becomming a key factor these days you know.

Som- JWM is 7 cr plus ( reported) and BB – 3.65 cr plus(reported), so the numbers I say look likely.
Will have the full list tomorrow.
And that will agree with your 60% crash for BB because even a60% for lower end 15 cr will yield 6 cr for BB.
Once gain Taran has hardly any centres.

Sandy ji I will not get into what is quality and what is not, because many believe that No Smoking is a quality film, and CDI is rass commercialism. Opinions vary.
OSO will not only recover its cost… let the day come.

i think OSO will be a big hit, considering its budget it can reach superhit classification(60 cr atleast)
but there is no way saawariya will flop,it will atleast be a semihit (40-45 cr) and if ranbir mania catches on like hrithik it can do much better also there are no big movies as such in the horizon so both movies can have good runs.

I think the person reporting the advance booking had gone at a wrong time.
I for one know that OSO has a lead over Saawariya.
Agree with Tango on the quality part and also on OSO potential. I have absolutely no doubt on its opening which will be the biggest this year and the weekend collection will be a record.
By Tuesday, things should become clear.

Nitesh: you can never know until the movies release on friday.even the so called trade guys have the habbit of taking sides or maintaing diplomacy when it comes to which movie has the edge in advance bookings.if i could rememebr correctly many trade critics and boxofficeindia had the reports that both JM and DON are neck to neck and the advance bookings are equally good.but when the two movies released, it looked as if the trade guys had lied about the advance bookings which was verymuch infavour of DON and JM was way behind.so it is always better to wait till the friday before passing any remarks on the opening.

Its all about getting hits and Adsence revenues.
Flora- You are right Saawariya too will score but its budget is bigger.

Personally, I am not a big believer in advance etc. It obviouslt helps, if the report is genuine.
Screen carried a report about good advance for Ramu’s Aag.
I always believe in live show on judgement day.

” I dont think a NS and CDI comparison is fair at all. NS is NOT a critically acclaimed film IMO, majority of critics have slashed this and it’s been appreciated by a handful of critics only. Doesn’t necessarily make it a “bad” film imo..
CDI on the other hand has been loved by critics and audiences alike…
