In order to describe David Dhawan’s latest release “ Partner”, it is very necessary to answer these three questions: a) What was the creator’s intention? b) How well was it done? c) Was it worth doing? The answers are a) The intention was to entertain b) It has been done pretty well….. and lastly c) It was definitely worth doing as the intention was to entertain.

So what if the screenplay of David Dhawan and Younis Sejawal is nothing but random sequences put together and an amalgamation of Hollywood films like What women want, Hitch and Are we there yet. So what if the locations range from Mumbai, Phuket and Dubai to tell you a story primarily set in Mumbai. So what if continuity is of no consequence. Lets not kid ourselves over trivial issues, we go to the movies in search of entertainment and Partner entertains you very well for the little over two hours it demands your attention.

Salman Khan plays a modern day love guru and is in his true elements, he goes through the film with gay (no pun intended) abandon. He looks really nice and as usual bares his well chisselled body at the drop of a hat. His other partner in crime Govinda is fabulous, he entertains to the hilt and is back in top form. One can see glimpses of the old Govinda- David Dhawan chemistry we all are so used to. Both the girls Katrina Kaif and Lara Dutta look glamourous and beautiful and do reasonably well. Rajpal Yadav as the cricket crazy, “ Chota Don” is hilarious, though he is evicted from the screenplay very suddenly. Suresh Menon as the gay wedding/event manager is also very convincing. The child actor who plays Lara’s son is extremely uninhibited but a little too precocious.

But the true hero of the film are the witty and crisp dialogues of Sanjay Chhel, he has done a truly outstanding job and has made up for all the flaws in the screenplay. The wit and humour in the dialogues brings the house down in several places in the film. Punit Issar refering to Rajpal Yadav as, ‘Hutch ka chota recharge’ is one such gem of a dialogue. Music ( Sajid – Wajid) is fantastic and is already a hit. Choreography (Bosco- Ceasar) is pulsating. Cinematography (Johny Lal) is of the highest standards. Production values are top class, the locales are eye-filling. David Dhawan once again proves that when it comes to providing Indian Ishstyle entertainment he is truly way ahead of the others. ‘Partner’ is a top quality production with a paisa vasool feel to it. Go watch and enjoy…..
