The art and the creative fraternity’s finest gathered for a soiree in Mumbai, on Tuesday. The place resonated with none other than Amitabh Bachchan’s baritone reading passages from host, Usha R Khanna’s book, who was celebrating her debut as a writer at the age of… hold your breath… 80!

Shabana Azmi was caught in traffic but made it in time to recite passages from the book too. Amitabh’s rendition of his late father, the celebrated poet Harivansh Rai Bachchan’s poem Agneepath, had the guests enthralled.

It’s ‘mindblowing ‘ how Bachchan manages to cast his spell on just about anyone, age no bar, sex no bar. And the man reached the venue on time. It is legend that the man is a stickler for time. No wonder the whole world is crazy about Bachchan!

Pooja Bedi was on the look out for vegetarian starters, passing up the delectable mutton samosas even as she made plans with Dolly Thakore to go out for dinner the same evening.

Wine glasses in their hand, the city’s intellectually inclined conversed about the finer things in life like art and literature.
