LOVE it!!!!! Kashyap rocks….
Random thoughts after watching METRO

1.Brilliant, A true metropolis film, not a fake yashraj take on it, a little too neat but yet real..
2.What gives me a kick is that a film with Shilpa, Sharman, KK, irrfan , konkona, about love life etc, kicks Tara rum pum in its ass.. love is more real, conversations more real .. this is how love stories would be made in the future..if not then God save “YRF”..
3.Bombay of Metro looks better than New York of KANK..Former is money well spent, latter is money down the shitter..
4.Ronnie Screwwala is the only wise man standing..
5.UTV is who I would lay my bets on..
6.The way the songs were structured , was original, yet kind of reminded me of Head On..
7. that one tilted frame when KK takes his daughter to the doc and the lift door shuts, and shilpa leans against the wall, sticks out like a sore thumb in an otherwise brilliantly shot film..another thing that bothered me was the floating postcards during that song when everyone is on the bike.. there it stopped being a film and became a music video..
8.Irrfan had the most populist role, Kaykay and sharman the most difficult roles, Shilpa was a revelation, Konkona well, has she ever been bad or has anything not been said about her..Shiney still has to put in a lot more..
9.Watching Dharamji after such a long time actually made me cry..
10. Why is it that KK always picks roles that tests his range rather than his popularity..he excels all the time but someone always walks away with the limelight.. is it that I love him too much..
11. Irrfan the way he stared at konkona’s breasts, after crying out loud..irrfan’s third best performance after Namesake and Haasil..
12. why couldn’t I write a scene construction like “who gaadi tab nikalega jab saare signal green ho jaayenge”.. I envy you sanjib data..
13.I envy your sense of constructing a scene and your frames my namesake basu..and your music sense..
14. Economy of scenes..
15. Kangana work with dubeyji to control your lisp, practice your dialogues while biting down on a pencil.. it helps.. she grew on me slowly.. first few scenes, that voice bothered me..Shiney’s eyes don’t say what his mouth says.. but when it’s only his eyes talking, he is intense..
!6. basu you work so goddamn hard on it all or those transitions just come naturally? Do you write them in the script, shot divisions or shoot them as you go along?
17.Bobby wow..
18.Even though it borrows from the THE APARTMENT..it proves three things.. one , inspite of lots of great things even basu couldn’t escape borrowing, two, he interpreted and adapted it so smoothly that he can be forgiven, third at least Basu watches good cinema, doesn’t limit himself to last year’s blockbuster..
19. pl do read and compare Khalid mohammad’s reviews of Tara Rum Pum and Metro, not just look at the stars given, read them and you will see whose payroll he is on..

Man this guy! I totally understand what he is saying but he really needs to tone it down a bit.
Any ways, does make a good reading though

Re: point 19: LOL!
“Shilpa was a revelation” — well, after Phir Milenge, I can’t say I’m surprised…

I too thought Basu was on top of his craft in Metro. He hasn’t got his due from the crtics ( except for Rajeev Masand who gave the film 4 stars.) With Murder, Gangster and now Metro he has made three very different, well-made films with a stamp of his own. He belongs among the list of the best directors of today. AS for Khalid Mohammed, that guy is dishonest to the core. Imagine he gave 5 stars to KKKKG, when Karan Johar himself admitted that Lagann and DCH were much better films . And he gave 4 stars to Ashoka. And only two stars to Hey Ram, and found nothing positive to say about it. Even to a film like RDb he gave three stars with a caption that was kind if deregatory. He is incapable of being unbiased. And his verbal acrobatics have stopped being amusing a long time ago. With Kashyap we have someone who dares call a spade a spade. YRF are not gods. It’s good to see someone being able to call their bluff.

He hasn’t got his critical due for the film ( except for Raajeev Masnd who gave it 4 stars) . AS for Khalid he has lost his credibility a long time ago when he gave K3G 5 stars. When Karan himself admitted that Lagaan and DCH were infinitely superior films. It is good to have someone like Kashyap who can call a a spade a spade and is not afraid of taking on powers like Yashraj and Bhansali, and show that the emperor has no clothes.

Smart guy with too much pent up testosterone. Some people get their nuts off being opinionated and rude ,even when they have something important to say that people would listen to anyway.

Crude but mostly true. Breathe of fresh air but only a matter of time before someone retaliates.

If the movie was all about the craft of film making then yes it was extremely well made. But if this was about telling a story, IMO it was fairly one track. I especially found the old couple’s track fairly ‘thakela’….and Nafisa Ali cannot emote for all the polo matches Sodhi saab has won !!!!
Irfan role may have been populist, but he capitalised on it superbly and delivers the best performance of the movie. Sometimes populist roles require that much more thought in acting out. The same reason why Paresh Rawal was asked to let go his role in MONSOON WEDDING to Vijay Raaz. Just think of him doing that role. It would/could have gone so horribly wrong.
Kay Kay is becoming repetitious unfortunately, though I liked him somewhat in HONEYMOON TRAVELS.
I have always maintained Sharman Joshi is a talent to reckon with right from his GODMOTHER days.
Kangana, Shilpa, Shiney were ho-hum no less, no more.
This is a DVD film imo.
