It was possibly the biggest hit of its time. When Tezaab released in 1988, it made history. N Chandra who directed the landmark film now hopes to recreate the magic by making a sequel.

Tentatively titled Tezaab II – Revisited, Chandra hopes to cast Anil Kapoor and Madhuri Dixit yet again in the remake.

“I have just finished scripting and just like the original, I will produce, direct and edit this film.” Chandra says, adding that Tezaab II will take off from where the original ended and will be “a violent and passionate love story targeted at the youth.”

Tezaab did a business of over Rs 20 crore at the box office and launched Madhuri Dixit and Anil Kapoor into instant stardom.

Intriguingly, it was Chandra who started the trend of sequels when he made Excuse Me after Style. For now though, Chandra is busy with the post-production of his latest movie Breaking News, which stars Perizad Zorabian, Atul Kulkarni, and Sanjay Suri among others.

“I will start working on Tezaab II once Breaking News releases,” informs Chandra who plans to approach only big names for this film.

With Madhuri’s much-hyped comeback in Aaja Nach Le and Anil Kapoor still holding fort, perhaps this sequel may just be as good as the original, after all.

How it became such a big hit remains a mystery. If you remove the songs, then I would find it totally unbearable.

Madhuri’s Mohini Magic is the reason for its sucess.

It did exceptionally well in Maharashtra. It worked big for the jobless youth of late 80s.

How can one forget Munna’s and his jobless friend’s strike on Lothia Pathan. AK lived the character of Tadipaar Munna.

But I am not sure how he is going to handle ‘love story’ in actor’s current age. In the era of call centers and globalization I do not think that old issue will work.

He was excellent in Ankush and good in Tezaab but after that his films were duds (including much hyped Narsimha).

Tezaab is a really good movie ! This is one of the first Bolly movies I saw, man ‘Ek do teen’ is a cult classic song ! Also remember how upset I use to get when they killed Chunkey in this one, damn that Kiran Kumar ! More embarrassing things being admitted by me !

“It did exceptionally well in Maharashtra”

Even in south it was a huge hit. I remember people standing in queue at 6am for the tickets.

And yes Narasimha, Yugandhar & Humlaa were pathetic.

Pranay: I am surprised to hear you say that. I thought it was a very gripping and emotionally “true” film. I especially loved the whole rescue-Mohini-from-Lotia Pathan’s lair-sequence (shades of the Ramayana et al.)…

I don’t think Madhuri will sign this one!

…and thank God for that Sameer! A sequel to Tezaab must be one of the lamer ideas in the history of Bollywood!

What next? A sequel to DDLJ? Raja Hindustani? I mean nothing — nothing — in the script or anything else about the film suggests the possibility of a sequel…

“What next? A sequel to DDLJ?”

Q, you wont believe but Zee News officially carried the DDLJ sequel story on their channel. They gave so much information about that Adi has completed the script and it’ll start this summer with SRK and Kajol and so on. How can news channel talk so much without any proof. Gossip magazines, sites are alright if they do it, but one can’t show such news on channels for 10-15 mintues without any credible information or source.

agree sameer — when it comes to the entertainment industry, even otherwise reasonably responsible news sources just let go of all standards, and every rumor is bandied about as fact…

Qalandar – maybe it was good considering the time it was released. I didnt watch it properly then. It was aired some time back on Star Gold, but I didn’t find it good enough.

Though performances were great, I must say
