    I can’t believe the mediocrity of these awards– Hritik for Krrish is like…like…f*** I don’t know what it’s like. As always there is a villain copout and this time it’s Saif in Omkara who is the bakra…

    Aamir in either Fanaa or RDB was more impressive than Hritik in Krrish (Hritik to my mind has regressed as an actor, and was way better in KMG than in Krrish), and Sanju too.

    I was quite upset yesterday with these awards but now i have seriosuly lost hope in the awards and wont be looking forward to any other.

    They keep screwing Munnabhai, last time they gave him some comic actor award and this time a critic award (like LRM is only cricital success)

    Khalnayak: I’m wondering if some of this is the result of propaganda (false, but repeated on news sites of wide-circulation like Rediff) that Krrish is the biggest hit of the year, i.e. bigger than LRM. That’s bunk, of course…it’s especially galling because Krrish is, even in Hritik’s own career, hardly his best performance or even close: This year alone, Dhoom 2 is a better, more fluid, Hritik performance IMO, and I would definitely rate KNPH and KMG and probably Fiza and MK over Krrish.

    …but whatever the reason it’s atrocious. Don’t feel too bad about this crap, remember there’s a reason Aamir Khan holds these awards in contempt and won’t show up for any barring the National Awards…

    I hope others stars (barring hrithik/srk) follow suit, this is absolutely disgusting.

    and agree its a propaganda and i wont be surprized if BOI has misreported Munnabhai a bit and overreported films like D2, Krrish, KANK etc.. The media just doesn’t wanna admit that Munnabhai is the biggest hit of the year!

    Also another i dun get is how a 35cr(Krrish) is super duper it and a 15-15cr(LRM) film who made a lot more then the former is also a mere super duper hit??

    Khalnayak: I had this whole debate on Fanaa vs Krrish, and various explanations were bandied about, none very convincing, until BOI suggested that Krrish was distributed for less than Fanaa…which seems VERY hard to swallow given that Krrish’s budget was easily twice Fanaa’s (why would you distribute it for less having spent twice as much, especially as unlike Fanaa Rakesh Roshan’s films have no market overseas?! Made no sense).

    On LRM: it’s bizarre that according to BOI this keeps getting closer to Gadar’s magic 70 crore figure but can never reach it! LOL…I believe the other sources that have used 70-75 crores for LRM…on Krrish the propaganda happened because Filmkraft kept using the GROSS 100 or 125 or whatever crore figures…the producers of 2005′s biggest Tamil hit Anniyan did the same crap with “100 crores in __ days” ads…Looking at the week-by-week center figures as was done on NG, LRM’s stability — rock solid — makes it impossible that any film until D2 could cross it, and D2 has some way to go still (btw, like satyam I am skeptical of a 35 crore opening; biggest ever? sure! but how could it get a 25% MORE opening than KANK, which presumably also maxed out the audience for the first week?)…

    I agree on all acounts Umair. I remember the a poster of Krrish released within the week, claiming ’79 crores in 7 days’ etc (they were plenty more.

    Also on D2, it just doesn’t seem right (both the first week and second), though i have not doubt that they are enormous but not THIS big. I believe BOI are ‘overexcited’ about this film just like they were with KANK..

    PS; having seen D2 just this week, i find it even more hard to believe that it made some much in its second week.

    This reminds me of my calculus class years ago, with LRM tending toward infinity (read: gadar) but never being able to reach it…

    Even leaving the gross aside, let’s just look at the difference in TONE when these sites (taking BOI as an example, but same could be said for indiafm) talk about LRM, and when they talk about KANK, Krrish or D2. No sense of objectivity is retained in the latter cases, and a breathless journalistic style prevails…

    Which brings me to the age-old question of why there is no “About Us” link on the BOI site. Who owns this site? Who runs it? No-one knows. It’s an anonymous source that could be run by YRF or Filmkraft or Anil Sharma for all I know…

    OMG what embarresment….this is just toooo much guyz…I dont know whats happening now n days with ppl giving out awards to non-deserving ppl…Hrithik over Aamir and Babba…Tusshar WTF…Upen Patel howwwww…and why is srk awarded something every yr…they just have to make new lame categories for that asshole…Bips in Corporate over Kajol in Fanaa…I DONT THINK SO…Alka best singer for KANK…more embarressing…GIFFA WTF IS GIFFA…this is the first time i hearda something like that…we should stop all these award shows…just stick to the lame filmfare and the lame screen awards..CANCEL OUT EVERYTHING else…NATIONALS R GETTING PRITTY WIERD TOO THESE DAYS.

    Ha! That calculus analogy is a good one! We’re dealing in infinitesimals here!

    You’re also right on the issue of the tone. With some films, including now D2, it’s almost as if BOI have produced the film. I will add that they never have such a jubilant tone for a Bachchan film (both father and son!). The moment I learnt about the crowd reaction to Abhishek and the reviews I knew BOI wouldn’t have a problem here and they don’t! Of course they’ve changed over the years depending on the agenda. Once upon a time they didn’t have much to say about Aamir and Hrithik either. KMG for example is at least 5 crores lower on their site in terms of gross! But since the Bahcchan onslaught in 2005 they love everyone!

    Getting back to LRM I made this common sense point sometime back. Gadar with negligible multiplexes made 70 crores according to them (actually I doubt Gadar made more than 60-65 crores but of course they wanted it to overtake DDLJ) and let’s assume this is true. gadar was a phenomenon but ultimately one depending on smaller centers. In major urban centers it did not even outgross K3G! Today LRM will all the multiplexes in the world and with the urban centers being strongest and also with the film being every bit as much of a phenomenon is not able to cross Gadar. Surely this is a bit ridiculous! LRM to my mind is somewhere between 75 and 80. Easily the biggest hit of tht year in terms of profitability, one of the historic hits anyway, and at this point the biggest absolute grosser ever.

    Now I’ve already said that I don’t think D2 has made more than 50-55 in 2 weeks. This means that by count it will still have to make 25 to 30 crores to cross LRM. And that won’t be easy. But even if it does so it certainly won’t be a more profitable hit than LRM. I do believe ultimately that there is a case of oversell on D2. Bombay/Gujarat is turning up huge numbers. It is excellent everywhere of course but the Bombay territory is supplying a large percentage of the gross.

    Yeah he debuted in Hazaaron Khwaishen Aisi. And even then, this film was ready for nearly a couple of years (doing the rounds of festival circuits) before it released generally.
